Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
Bluegill pattern Spinnerbait 3/8oz
albino zoom swimming fluke jr on 1/8oz darter head
1/4 football head finnese jig, big-bites 3" craw trailer.
(for numbers, D/S robo worm, senko and 3.8 kitech)
But honestly the best 3 baits at Barret(or anywhere) are the 3 you are best at fishing.

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
#1. My PB was caught at Barrett using a Cabela’s smoke metal flake pearl belly swimming minnow pinned on a 1/8 oz ball jig. Since then I have refined this a touch by using the smokey ghost color and a 1/16 oz ball jig. Getting really close looks at the bait balls in this year’s clearer water has ...

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
Popper, then jerkbait and then crankbait as the day progresses. Unless conditions keep one of those catching. When they are busting, I like a stick bait but a fluke might be better, I just like to see the hit on the surface.

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
Ain’t no bass man alive that will settle for just 3 baits… Or rods….Or reels… Or maybe even boats.. You guys are worse than fly guys.. No such thing as getting by with 3 of anything… 😉… Now us surf guys can do it with just 1 bait.. Sand crabs…. Well maybe bloodworms… And maybe ghost shrimp… and we ...

Re: Are the bass schooling on bait yet?
There's a couple reports on Wednesday that cover the lures we all used pretty well. I do have panoptix and saw bait balls at about 10 feet and lower on Wednesday. The bass were below them, but a deep crank couldn't get them to react. I'm terrible with plastics, so I have no useful info there. I didn ...

Me too! But frogs can be fun occasionally as well!JWall wrote: Fri May 24, 2024 10:45 amSome of the topwater afficianados will say topwater all the way and I will admit I’m a worm/plastics guy at heart so pick your poison.

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
I get it… Just being a smart a$$ and poking fun at bass guys and their gear… All is good though ,as we all like our gear…
Butch
Oh, we all do that.
I have a buddy who brings 5 bags, and ends up throwing 2 baits all day.
You're not a bass fisherman if you don't.

Re: Are the bass schooling on bait yet?
Took my groms out on Sunday 5/26 and got into some quick roaming schools in Hauser. They were moving around a lot but when you got on them it was every cast on weightless flukes. Not much size to the schooling fish we ran into, but super fun. They havent quite came together thick yet like they ...

Re: If Could Only Bring Three Baits…
Don’t think I have ever brought less than 10, maybe 20 types of lures to Barrett. I would bring more but there is only so much room on a float tube.
I was rigging my rods up for this Wednesday when I thought I would show some of the lures to my wife. Upon seeing the rat, she said “that’s ...

Re: First timer
When I yaked it, if the wind got super bad, I’d find a point, beach it and fish the point from shore. Wind blown points can produce epic bites

Re: Reapers
Split shot is the go to with a wide gap worm hook matching the size of the reaper. They actually work well on drop shot too. You can Texas rig them but honestly split shot is best. Keep them on the bottom, pulling it slow and pause. I prefer to stitch them. If you are patient, they will pull through ...

Re: Reapers
Reapers are an old school SoCal bait. Used to be that everyone threw them, like a chocolate blue vein worm. They work well on Texas rigs and drop shots too.
