Congrats on a great start to the new year I love that you reached your goal.
I also take ( all ) my trebles off and use the Owner’s single hook replacements it’s makes it super simple and through the years I have never had one bend out or break plus I can store lures together without spending time ...

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!
The hooks have already been ordered! It’s been something that I’ve thought about for a long time but never gotten around to doing. Thanks all for the recommendations. And when I do make a video with those I will for sure post it on SDFish and let people know I took the recommendations of others ...

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!
Thanks for watching! It is an investment if that’s the route you want to go. That being said there are so many options these days so you don’t have to break the bank to get started. Tube, waders, boots and fins. There’s something for any budget out there. If you want any recommendations message me ...

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!
Great catching and nice legal!! First…that vintage trap almost resembles a baby spottie with the colors and pattern? Second, butts love the smelt. A hundred years ago on the San Dieguito River just east of the race track we used to toss out bread pieces to call them to the surface and would scoop ...

Party crasher
I had a good spotty bite going and then this guy decides to horn in. Too big for the net, too big for the tube, had to kick to shore just to land it, probably took at least an hour just to land. Released to get bigger. Got on a 5/16 ounce jighead and 4" clear grub, 6 lb test line. 26.8 lbs, PB, my ...

Re: Party crasher
Amazing catch. Unbelievable that you didn’t get chewed off. Where was the jig?
The jig hook caught in the corner of the mouth so the line never even rubbed against the fish. I felt the line afterwards and there wasn't even any abrasion on the line. When I got to shore, I put my rod in the rod ...

Midway Sculpin
Plenty of sculpin next to the midway. Dropper loop rig with market shrimp on size 4 hooks works great. Lots of small ones, but definitely enough keepers to make it worth an afternoon. Don’t cast far—they’re right by your feet.

Re: Midway Sculpin
Been a while since I have seen a Sculpin that large nice fish ! Sculpin regulations have changed , no size limit, if you possess fillets they must have entire skin attached .

Tackle Warehouse has good ones. Big eye so they don’t hang up on the split ring.
I will be ordering as well. I found a pack of single hooks in my garage tackle store that were the right size but normal ...

Coronado Cays after the storm, yuck
Went out to the Cays Monday after the weekend storm to find the waters full of trash. What also looked like a slick of sewage in the channel was not something anyone wants to see either. Once the outgoing tide kicked in, the water slowly cleaned up.
Totals for the morning was only 8 little bass, a ...

Thanks for the update! Those heads are my go to for sure. They are inexpensive easy to use and most importantly they work great! I'll be posting my Sunday trip to the bay shortly. Cheers!

San Diego Bay Fishing: I Found Them!

Hey all!
I have been fishing the lakes lately but with limited success. So Saturday I had a trip to the bay planned that had to be postponed due to the winds. I ended up going to Lake Miramar and got there at 7am after sleeping in just a bit. I did not realize that ...

Re: San Diego Bay Fishing: I Found Them!
I love fishing in the rain! I was warm and dry (except for hands and face, though I do have some nice neoprene gloves) and catching fish. What more could I ask for.JWall wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 5:59 pm Excellent effort and tips as always! Had a big smile as you enjoyed the rain. Clearly you were a happy baby![]()

Best color is a clear choice
Saw large schools of 2" slough anchovies in the harbor I was fishing in today. The clear curly tail grub worked better than anything else I tried (full disclosure: did not try a junebug craw though). I used the same lure as 2 weeks ago when I got the 26.8 lb halibut, lure shown below for reference ...

It looks like you have that curly tail upside down is that how you set them so they fit the head shape of the jig?

Re: Big Bay Sunday 2-2 Spotties MIA
Early morning is usually the best time. Find the eel grass and eventually you’ll hook up into some bass. Also when in doubt, go smaller and lighter on the jigs.
