Hello all,
Although I seem to only fish one lake, maybe two, I recently expanded my horizons to the ocean. Well, why didn't anyone say anything about how fun it is? Tom Noel (1fishdude) took me out a couple times now and we have had a blast. The numbers are not there yet for me, but it sure is a ...

SD Bay 12-7, slow
Fished with two guys from work. Morning incoming wasn’t even 2 feet. Hot, no breeze, fish were taking a nap like I should have been home doing. Got a handful, just wondering who else was out and if you found anything consistent.

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow
Went out of Tidelands on Sunday. It started out clear and then the fog rolled in. It ended up clearing out around 9am. Then the FOG rolled back in thick at noon. I couldn't see the Bridge from 200 feet away. The fishing started out slow but picked up around 8 and was consistent for the rest of the ...

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow
Halibut bite has been great lately along the bay side of the Silverstrand. Just look for the pelicans working the schools of micro bait. Had multiple keepers every day from Friday-Sunday and early last week had 6 keepers back to back days with 15+ shorts each day. Key this time of year is to move ...

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow
Thanks for the info. We found the balls you are mentioning, I was running a bladed swim jig under them. Looks like I should have devoted more time to that.

Re: SD Bay 12-7, slow
28 spotted bay bass on Saturday from the float tube in South Bay, mostly on weedless Ned rig in and around the grass. Definitely slower compared to the recent days with large tide swings.

Always entertaining and usually pick up at least a new thing or two. Love that Square Mile Flat area but notice you and Brad went around the corner towards the Strand? I will have to try that as it seemed like ...

SD Bay in winter
Launched from Cays, got a nice halibut, that pic is my avatar now. Wound up with 47 spotted bay bass and 2 halibut. Most were on a cow pie green (match the hatch???) curly tail grub on a 5/16 ounce ball head jig in 9-15' of water. Slow and low (1/2 crank, pause, repeat) retrieve as usual and feeling ...

Re: Sunrise hali
Thank you!
Halibut streak is over. Deep jiggin for 7 hours in a ripping tide today. Pretty tired. Just some bass, nothing photo worthy.

Re: SD Bay in winter
Picked the wrong spot yesterday (Sunday the 5th). Only got 16 (I think) spotties while my friends were a half-mile away roping a ton of fish. Also got a few short halibut.....and had a big one hooked for a while.
So if the halibut spits the hook and ends up foul-hooked right in the middle of its ...

Re: SD Bay in winter
My method for landing halibut in the float tube:
1. Bring the fish up to the tube, this is usually not to hard. Next step is to really tire the fish out. When he seems to tire, lift his head slightly out of the water. This will cause the fish to take off; he wasn't that tired after all.
2. When ...

Additionally, to remove the hook(s), hold the jaws open with plastic pliers (https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-fish-gripper-pliers?gQT=1 ) and use needle nose pliers to pry the hook(s) out.

Re: SD Bay in winter
I landed this 10 lb, 31 inch 'but without net or gaff......by tiring it out and sliding it up over the spreader bar and grabbing it by the gill plate on the far side...and holding its head (and my jig) against my chest. No, it didn't work on the first try...or the second...you get the picture ...

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!
Saw this yesterday on Youtube, great stuff as always. I was out this past Saturday and it was slow for me and apparently some others. I only saw one fish get landed by the numerous boaters and yakers out near the bridge. I’m hoping for a better day this Sunday.

Re: San Diego Bay, Crazy Good Fishing!
Sorry but I have read online that fishing slows down in the bay during the winter. You must be catching illiterate fish. Or ones without Internet access.
Ha! That's hilarious. I've actually had some of my best days on the bays in the winter. I've never had an issues with it slowing down ...
