Re: It's not Barrett 8/8

Comparing a Public Lake, and one with multiple Tournaments, to Barrett is going to get you the same answer every time. I fish Barrett type Lakes often. My closest got hit with a fish kill and Golden Algae this year, the Bass numbers dropped in half but it is still better than the local Public Lakes ...

Re: It's not Barrett 8/8

The rocks by the boat ramp use to have fish all over, now nada.
On another note I'm sore today from rocking and rolling from boats zipping all over. Barrett doesn't have that either.

Murray 8/8

Some of the bigger fish are starting to hit topwater walking baits at the Murr. I caught 6 early morning TW fish then it basically shut down. I picked up a few more on a jig pitching the edge of the tules and points. Total was 9, with the biggest going 4.1.

8/11-Murray Micro fun?

I ventured over to Murray with my kayak this morning as today was going to be the only day I could fish this week. Water levels at Murray is up and down every few days now as I stop by the lake often and check it out at the boatramp. What was a foot or two above the average level last week which was ...

El Capitan 8/12

Had a really fun 18 fish day at The Captain today, but I had to go old school to get them.

Started off on top with 2 on the Gunfish. Then I switched to a jig and got a couple more. Then the bite just stopped, so I tied on a pegged Texas rigged Trick worm and evidently that's what they wanted!

Most ...

Re: 8/11-Murray Micro fun?

Vito, just recently I bought a few Gunfish 75NF because of the success a couple buddies have had.
I have never prior to that thrown one that small, but I think it does better at matching the bait(shad)
that the bass are chasing. I have had most of my luck on the chrome colored one.

Re: 8/11-Murray Micro fun?

"I guess I should be clearer, on a jerkbait do you use straight braid and on worms or craw baits, if you use Flo or mono on topwater I thought that they both sink so why wouldn’t you use braid as it floats, sorry about so many questions but you consistently catch fish and I’m appreciative of your ...

Frankenstein bait at El Cap 8/15

Much like earlier in the week I caught a couple of topwater early and 1 jig fish. After that the only thing that seemed to get their attention was a worm. So I T-rigged it and caught 6 or 7 that way but over half of them choked it, necessitating surgery. This is the primary reason I find of stopped ...

El Cap 8/16

Finally got back out on the water again ( I really hate you guys that get to fish so often! 😝). Lake was packed! Had to have been at least one club tournament if not two going on.

Had really no idea what to expect except for the recent reports from here. Started out throwing a frog and missed a ...

Glad you finally got out! Frogging is a hoot. If you found a Lucky Craft Gunfish... you're welcome! A big one broke me off last week there.

Otay 8/17

Had a bit of a rough one at Otay yesterday. Got out as soon as it opened and fished till noon with only 6 dinks to show for it. I tried multiple baits in every part of the water column and just couldn't find any willing participants. I didn't even bother with pictures.

So instead I went home and ...

New Local skunk elimination (Discovery Lake edition)

Well another local body of water with no lifetime skunk for me. This one took me 4 trips and every one was filled with optimism, the place looks so fishy...anyway here are some examples...nothing big but feels good to wash the skunk off...

8/21-Murray "Oh YEAH!"

With a very hot day ahead, I was going to stay home but decided to go to Murray. Finally got on the water a little after 7am and messed around trying to catch one of the bass chasing shad along the surface. It was next to impossible as those little buggers were up and down quickly but did pick up ...

Re: 8/21-Murray "Oh YEAH!"

VB am I seeing that DT hula jig pinned on a weedless ned rig?

Why, yes you are!
And those little weedless weighted Ned rigs
work well with craw baits also. I like putting
Googan Krackin craws and Strike King Rage
craws on them.

Brilliant. As usual. Thx!

Not brilliant….. just lots ...

JWall wrote: Fri Aug 22, 2025 7:00 am Since you are in that neighborhood, do anything to get on Lake San Marcos. Fished it regularly through the 90’s and later and had many a Barrett-like day. We had friends that lived there tho, which is pretty much the ticket.
Thanks, maybe I will have to find a new friend!

The challenge ....close, but no cigar!

The goal: catch a bigger fish than Vinny this week! D.K. my choice of lakes to complete the challenge. Baits I selected to achieve my goal...everything I can cram into my tube! I thought I pulled it off but fell a little short....! He has not heard the last of me!
