El Capitan 4/19

Managed to pull 8 fatties out of The Captain today on BFS gear. Nothing under 2 and nothing over 3, but they were feisty.

I'll post a breakdown of baits I used in the BFS section for you other finesse guys if you are interested.

Cap on Friday 4/18

Well, we decided to get the boat wet again. Wanted to go to Cap at least one more time before the water is too low to launch. Per SD Lakes website, we are 4.5 feet from no launch. They report levels once a week, so I am sure it's closer to no launch that that. The lake is about 4-5 feet lower that ...

Re: Cap on Friday 4/18

I remember last year they were releasing tons of gallons of water out of El Cap right down into the San Diego river which was absolutely ridiculous.
So sad!

Re: Cap on Friday 4/18

Our lakes are in such sad shape, its honestly depressing. With the dry winter we had, its only going to get worse. As boaters we have already lost Hodges, Sutherland, and Morena. Add El Cap to that list and Otay and San V are going to get killed with the tournaments and rec fishermen all getting ...

Re: Cap on Friday 4/18

So sad to see this at El Cap. & Hodges...
I'm an SD native in my 50's & have fished all the SD county lakes since childhood.
There has been a long, steady decline in the management & operations of the lakes since the late 90's.
There are now more lakes that private boater/fisherman cannot use than ...

Topwater blast at the Murr 4/22

Had a blast at Murray today. Caught 11 topwater bass early, then went to the bottom when the wind picked up, and added a few more. All in all it was a really fun day!

As always I'll share the bait in the BFS section.

4/23-Lucky and Thankful

I was a little emotional as it would have been my fathers birthday today and the reason I went fishing. My father took me fishing almost every weekend when I was growing up. I learned so much aboutfishing and always loved out fishing outings. I try to get out and fish each year on his birthday.
So ...

Re: 4/23-Lucky and Thankful

Did you need help reeling it in? They're probably draining funky water from the bottom of El Cap. Your Dad would be proud that you stuck to fishing! Many a kid has been saved by fishing....Me!

This week at Murray

I was fortunate enough to fish Murray this week Tue-Thurs. With the city's budget cuts coming, it looks like lake fishing on weekdays is going to go the way of the Dodo, so I will get it while the getting is good I suppose.

After the topwater bonanza on Tuesday. I picked up a few more that way ...

Otay 4/23

Hit it up again in my pontoon. Getting it ready for Barrett. I got a few on top water and the ones that missed the topwater tossed on them with fly lined worm and fish on. It was like the week before with plenty of fish willing to come see me. Biggest just over 4lbs.

El Capitan April 25 report

Hi all,

Got out to El Capitan this morning for a quick run. Got on the water at 0630 and air was cool, but not too bad. Water was at 64F on the surface. Saw Jeremy ( Corso Enthusiast ) and Dan ( Dannicus ) and we all headed out in our various directions. With the toasty water temp, I tried poking ...

El Capitan 4/25

Nice to see CorsoEnthusiast and Early release today at El Capitan. Later in the afternoon KillinTime (John) came by and introduced he and his son. We had a great chat. I have met so many awesome folks here on the forum.

I ended up catching 11 total. Most were between 2-3 lbs with the largest ...

Cap 4/25

Had to get the gettin while the gettin is good, so we headed out there again today.

Overcast sky and veritable winds, that were very lite for El Cap. Mid 60s water temps.

Went right back to the scene of last weeks crime. The shad spawn was still on. They are thick, you can walk across the ...

4/25- Over the hills and far away

Well, I did go over some hills and the lake is far away as compared to how close Murray is to me. Anyway, headed up to Donald and
Kiefer's lake where McFish and Fisheromen were already out on the water. I quickly headed over to work an area where McFish was
and it seemed within no time he had a ...

Re: 4/25- Over the hills and far away

Fun day today, glad you could make it up! Today was one of those days where everything lined up for me! It's been awhile since I had a 30 fish day..they sure are fun! The pattern was the opposite of what it was 2 weeks ago, you never know! Next time you come up, I'm giving you a sedative...you work ...
