What a challenge 2/11

I got to Murray this morning forgetting it was the second Tuesday of the month and it was closed, so I pivoted and went to Mission Bay instead.

I launched from Dana Landing at around 8:30 and the tide was high. I landed a couple of small spotties among the anchored boats, when Fish and Game pulled ...

Stocking, Dragons and Full Moons

It's stocking week at the pond. Which means I'll have the following interaction about 15 times a day this week:

"Did they stock yet?!"

"No."

"Damn! Do you know when they're gonna stock?"

"No."

A few moments later, the same $hit happens, with someone asking:

"Did they stock yet?!"

I need ...

Hey all,
I headed back to Hodges today for a quick morning sesh before work. I got there at 5:30am just like last week but instead of having 25 cars in front of me when I got there I only had 3 today. I know the slow first week and the rain kept people away. But I gots to know! You may or may not ...

Unless you are a pro fisherman, then there's a cross over. :)
Which is the very reason I never pursued that path....I like my fishing to be the opposite of work lol.

Re: What a challenge 2/11

Here are the new fins I ordered. I have always used the kind where you put your toes in and stretch a bubber strap around the back of your heel. The problem has arisen lately that the thrust from the Bixpy motor wants to push the rubber strap off of my heel. Hopefully these will be more secure.
I ...

I was just thinking the catfishing in that area would have been fantastic with all the decomposing meat. There are some big kitties in there!

A nice, fresh introduction

After a good year of re-learning the game after about 20 years out, I decided to take the spotty skills I’ve built up to a small local lake before (and during) the storm this week. With almost no largemouth experience as a kid, I was hoping the time I’ve spent consuming YouTube, SDFish and other ...

Hodges Start...

Well I have to say, I am disappointed in my start at Hodges...but this is most likely due to the super inflated expectations I had built up over the long closure. But here goes...two days last Saturday 2-8 and today Sunday 2-16 for a total of 2 fish, but I will get to that in a second. First of all ...

An El Cap Kinda Weekend

Feels like spring is on the horizon.. I spent both days this weekend at El Cap. Chatted with Early release on Friday and he mentioned that he and Pourboy were heading to Cap Sunday morning. I was already tentatively planning a trip there Saturday so I'd get a chance to scout a bit.

Saturday ...

2/18-Back to SD River

Kept busy all last week working on a rental property and did not fish once. So, I headed down to the SD river this morning to give it a go for a few hours. Never seem to get an early start(blame old age, or don't like to be cold?).
The water temp is still pretty cold and pretty murky from the rains ...

Cap No Cap

0330 and we're leaving Los Angeles, en route to beautiful San Diego County, GPS set to El Cap, where we will hopefully not be donating our tournament fees to other anglers in two weeks. And speaking of anglers, even if we fail miserably, least we get free hot dogs for lunch, courtesy of Angler's ...

Never heard of such a thing, but upon research, finally found that warning. Thanks, saved me 2 hours of wasted driving, small miracle I stopped over here before heading over there:

Re: PSA - Otay closed for algae bloom 2/19

I wonder if it is a nutrient abundance thing from the ash from the fires? Just a thought. Thanks for letting us know about the tourney move as well. How big is that tourney? I know there is another there that day as well.

Re: 2/18-Back to SD River

Thanks for the update Vinny -- always appreciate them. I haven't caught a bass in months (also haven't been fishing much so there's that). This gives me some motivation.

2/21-Late Morning fun

With the recent warm weather, I just figured the bass should be moving in tighter to shore. Hit the water a little after 8, and flipped
the tulles and outside of tulles in shallow water with plastic worms, craw and creature baits. So much for the bass being in tighter
as I worked those areas hard ...

I’ve seen Hodges when it was pure green paint. Stuff stick to your line muck up your guides. Terrible. No one ever closed the lake. We all lived through it :-)

Re: 2/21-Late Morning fun

Those are some chunks VB! 👏

What is strange is last year most of my healthier and bigger fish were also down in deeper water at Murray and Miramar. Quite a change for me, as the years before I mostly used Tokyo rigs to flip the tulles and fished closed to shore for some of my nicer fish. No ...
