Re: Tuesday at the Cap...change of plans

Well done. I got skunked there on top last week as well. Threw it a lot, along with the JB. No buster, but don't usually need them for my top. Ended with one blade fish. Froze in early am, low 40's, like you. That surprised me. Bring heavy jacket if starting oDark hundred.

I'm not sure if the ...

Re: Fall Fishing El Cap

Thanks Pourboy and will look for you on the big bay if you are there Sunday. Tides are really smoking and there should be a good bite.

PS yes I saw the ned fish. That was a beefer! On my boat those automatically become the 5 pounders that got away 😂😂

Tide Swing Spotties 11-26

Thought a 7ft tide swing might have them on the chew and wasn’t disappointed. Got 11 feisty biters before the lack of water on our spots chilled the bite. Did move around some docks for 3 late ones but were off the water by 11. Small colorful curly tail plastics on underspins and a bronze Damiki ...

What's funny to me, is when we last fished at San V together, you and I mostly used our favorite baits. :)
That day got desperate pretty quick! 😂

Re: San V Mon 12/11

Great job! I always see those busters up tight but shy away from throwing that deep in the sticks. Note to self…throw deeper in the sticks 😉

Re: Why do I feel the need to fish a big swimbait?

As is always the case, this board (and .com before it) offer so much good advice. We actually mirror each other in many ways, the surfing/fishing. My best mentors have always stressed to learn the basics and catch more to keep the stoke going. But the potential thrill of catching big bass on ...

Big Bay 12-17

Thought we’d try the opposite tide swing from last trip, low to high. Unfortunately couldn’t find a steady bite in the usual spots. Decided to mix things up and yoyo a blade bait, different from the heavier leadheads and paddle tail plastics I usually fish deep. Started getting spotty bites in the ...

Re: Go to bait

As I said about split shot reapers earlier…another go-to that I should throw more but for some reason don’t, is a basic Rattletrap, chrome with either a blue or black top. I have caught/found fish on tough days for decades throwing this. If I would just dedicate one of the 4,5,6 sticks I bring to ...

Re: Go to bait

The chocolate/ blue vein worm. Still one of my main colors. Works in any lake and any water clarity. Absolutely love throwing a crawdad color lipless crankbait from now through the spawn!

Back in the 90’s I won the one and only bass tournament I ever entered fishing that exact worm up in the ...

Re: Go to bait

An observation or two from this thread…once again the pro’s in this forum are most generous and giving of hard-earned advice and second, this thread may have boosted the local tackle economy significantly 😂

Re: San Diego Bay Fishing Dialed In! With A Bonefish Bonus!

Great going!! We went early on Sunday and it was just a slow pick. You definitely had a better bite later with the breeze and the falling tide. And those flats are always holding variety. Once caught a decent juvenile white seabass right where you were.

Re: All these lagoons…

As you should! In years past I have fished the San Dieguito River, Batiquitos, Agua Hedionda, and Buena Vista for various fresh and saltwater species. More recent development has restricted access but there are definitely fishies in there.

Re: All these lagoons…

On Buena Vista there used to be a trail down to the south side of the farthest west part. You could catch small bass for hours on anything with a bit of flash. Rooster tails were the best. Did see a guy land about an 8 pounder there once. The feeder into the east end of Batiquitos from the golf ...

Re: New Angler Seeking Gear Recommendations – Help Needed!

Best wishes on this new endeavor. San Diego is fishing heaven! Some thoughts on starting out:

A. Get a decent spinning outfit for lighter baits and lures. 8lb or 10lb test works, you can always tie on lighter leaders.
B. Buy a decent baitcasting outfit for heavier weights. 12lb test works but you ...

Curse of the First Cast Fish!

The curse is real!! Decided to hit the small bay for a change. It’s right down the hill from my place but we almost always hit the big bay. Anyway the morning was chillier and breezier than forecast but we were determined to learn. Had new tactics ready to go and first cast…bam! Truly thought about ...

Be careful at speed in Big Bay!! Tons of debris

Most of its the nuisance size trash but I did see boards and such that would do damage to your hill and motor. That trash could stop water intake too. I had to lift up my motor to free a stick and other things several times. I heard MB was bad too.
