Re: Beating the heat
Evaporative cooling. Dip your hat and sleeves in the water. I also take a thin cotton dish towel, wet it and put around my neck. If you are in a float tube, then roll the waders down and splash water on your thighs. I keep an extra empty bottle on my float tube for pouring water on my thighs. Works ...

Re: Beating the heat
Also, the hat should be wide brim and ideally with a back neck flap such as https://www.amazon.com/UPF50-Hiking-Safari-Fishing-Women/dp/B08SPVLKZQ/ref=sr_1_6_pp?channelId=500&clpRedir=Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eBz2iwm6qrM2XX4wOCHjcFcXGzySv5l5DHejim-M_Y1CK25h6av5Q0XnAkbjv50baxLWstGSTt4pegxLgTXLEb ...

The original post was written by DJ Thrillz . Unfortunately it was lost along with the old SDFish forums.
This is an amazing article that will help you catch fish in SD bay, so I figured it has to be re-posted here.

Re: Mission Bay | Jul 1 + Help
Mission Bay can be tough from shore. I believe a lot of spots in Mission Bay can get overfish. I would try somewhere like Spanish landing or Harbor island.

Re: Mission Bay | Jul 1 + Help
Try using 1/4 - 3/8 oz texas rigged Gulp Jerkshads in Nuclear Chicken or New penny. Also try from sandy shorelines with access to eel grass. 1/4 oz jigheads with 3 inch swimbaits fished slowly through the eel grass has worked great as well.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I definitely want to try to rent a skiff or something one day, sadly it is definitely a good chunk of cash for me to rent. I'll definitely try some other spots around mission bay. Jerkshads definitely look really fun to fish.
I'll also keep hitting the surf with ...

Re: Mission Bay | Jul 1 + Help
I've done ok with small calico bass and spotted bass on kastmasters at Ventura Pt. There is a lot of fishing pressure there, many people live in their vehicles there and fish. You have to slow down your retrieve on metal lures there to get bites.

Re: Mission Bay | Jul 1 + Help
I haven’t fished SD bays, but have up here in LA/OC…. My go to was ghost shrimp and blood worms…. I’m more of a bait guy than lure anyway, but they have been productive for me…. What do fish eat?.. Crustaceans, worm and fin fish… Not so much, plastic, wood or metal….

You fished about the worst time of the day. Get out there at sunrise and it’s a whole different experience.

Is it just me or is San Diego Bay really hard to fish?
I’ve been fishing SD bay fairly consistently for about a year now but still really struggle to catch anything. If I had to guess, I’d say I probably catch a fish every 8 hours of fishing, on average, so I get skunked a majority of the time. Based purely on this abysmal rate, I figure I must be doing ...

PB and MB 7/1
Tough going this morning. Seaforth was totally out of fresh bait. Would have to make do with dried lugs & a few leftover frozen sc's if no crabs on the beach. On the sand at PB at 6:30, a nice trough between LG station & T 25 just below the pier. Incoming tide still real shallow after earlier low ...

Mission 7/6
Spur of the moment decided to give the mid morning incoming tide a go as a change of pace from doing the real early am lows. On the beach at 9:45 and found a decent hole plus a few crabs. Crabs were small, little fingernail size & smaller, only a few with any roe. Lot of salad too but fishable. No ...
