The grind at Cap

Have been visiting Cap a lot more recently with the bite at my other regular spots slowing down for me the past few weeks.

Made one trip in the tube, back on 11/1. Fished from open until 11AM and managed to find one bite out off the end of a long point in 25'+. Thought I'd find more that way but ...

Re: Almost mid November…

Looks like a lot of us were there this past Saturday! I got a limit from shore, with every bite coming between 5:30 and about 6:15.

Lake Murray News 11/14

It was a relatively slow day at the Murr, but I did manage 4 bucketmouths with the one pictured being the largest at 3.7.

But the news is that the lake is supposed to get its first trout stock of the year at the end of next week (per the guy in the tackle shop). So all you big swim bait guys better ...

San V. 11/14

Went to San V. The water is down to muscles now. Easy to cut your line as I did. I started top water pushed it for as long I can stand it for nothing. Still some busters happening, didn't want to chase them. Fished my normal haunts or I should say the area as my spots are out of the water. Found ...

Re: San V. 11/14

I also used to be shocked at guys fishing for bass that were using light line and tackle also until I started catching more fish on lighter line, especially on lakes that have very clear water. I have not got into the BFS yet, but using 6 pound fluoro every once in a while is at least a compromise ...

Re: Miramar let me down

Sadly, in recent years, it’s almost like you have to drive up there the day before or two days before you go fishing just to make sure the launch ramp is open. It is a waste of gas but at least you know. I just found it easier to take my kayak when I have gone up there so I don’t have to worry.

11/21-SD River am session

Have not fished the SD river since Halloween which is scary, but been pretty busy and was out of town for a bit. Went down for a morning session and morning it was as I arrived at around 8:30 a.m. The water was even greener than last time and started off working a number of reaction baits(crank ...

Re: Miramar let me down

I never take my boat to Miramar..you never know when they're going to screw with the water level..only float tube it now! The City does a lousy job at keeping fishermen informed about conditions!

Re: 11/21-SD River am session

In the Midwest, there is an insect called a June Bug that is very plentiful during the summer. As kids, we used to catch them, tie a thread onto one of their legs and watch them fly around (pre video game and cell phone days). As fish bait, they did not seem to work, grasshoppers were a much better ...

Re: 11/21-SD River am session

Awesome Job! Again! ...and by the way does anyone know why it's called June Bug? I've wondered that for decades but never bothered to look into it.

We would take vacations back to Pennsylvania when I was a young and there would be Japanese Beetles back there. Then I remember
seeing June bugs ...

Re: 11/21-SD River am session

Of course your plastic worm does not look like a June bug insect and lucky for you that it doesn't. Fish refuse to eat them so they must taste really bad if even a fish won't eat it. Never tried one myself so this is just conjecture.

But fish have probably never tried June bugs with Parmesan ...

OK, now that the Junebug thing has been discussed I have some other colors in the pumpkin variety of colors that I should test out. I remember the root beer color was really good years ago.

Re: 11/21-SD River am session

So anyway, great job on the fish! Sorry to highjack your thread. Maybe it's time to bring back the Otay Special worm next!

I have some original Delong Otay specials. Not many, but I remembered decades ago, boiling water, dropping them in there, pulling them out with a pair of pliers, stretching ...
