Re: Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass

In the book Knowing Bass , the author describes an experiment done at Berkley where they started with a plastic craw and did modifications to see what worked best. Removing the claws and other legs worked the best. They tried longer, shorter and fatter shapes and the craw body size was about ...

Re: Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass

Bait fishing is an art form for sure! I think it's funny when people look down on others for it. It is not nearly as easy as it appears. Like fishing shiners and getting them to go where you want. For that I just use a Jedi mind control technique, but everyone has their own ways.

Maybe I will ...

First time at Hodges in 2024

Had an awesome day at Hodges. Really fun chatting with Chris (AKA Pourboy AKA the BeefShaman) after fishing too.

I caught three small clone Largemouths (didn't even bother with pictures), but the highlight of the trip was this dinner plate crappie on my BFS rod and reel!

El Cap evening bite

After waking up and relocating my new fish finder from the bow to the console I decided to give it a spin at El Cap which has been my nemesis the last few trips there. Fished from 1-5pm. Wind had already picked up so it was fun trying to work a spot on my crappy trolling motor(can’t wait til I can ...

El Capitan 2/13/24

I usually fish Murray on weekdays because it is conveniently located by my kid's school. Murray, however, is closed the second Tuesday of every month so I ventured up to El Capitan.

It was an absolutely beautiful day. I ended up catching 4 smaller bass and this bruiser. The small bass were hitting ...

Re: Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024

Another fine video.
What do you think the effect of all those carp are on the bass population?

San V 2/15 Awesome day

Finally some shallow fish!!!

About 10min into my day my Spot Lock quit working on me so I called an audible and decided to just go shallow and run shorelines. Turned out to be the right move. Seems like these few warm days we’ve had pushed some fish shallow. Found quite a few shallow fish all ...

2/16 SD River: After the flooding

Got up this morning and went to a nice breakfast with Deb(bacon/eggs/toast...no crepes today McFish). Later, I found myself in my garage which basically means I started messing around with fishing gear to pass time. I picked up a few clones at Murray the other day and kept thinking about a bass I ...

San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

I know I’m going to sound like a grumpy old man here but please bear with me.

To the Basshole in the white Ranger with beige and black stripes. Just because I started in the same spot you wanted to doesn’t mean you continue to roll in on me until you, literally, cast across me! Get to the lake ...

Re: San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

And that is why I NEVER fish holidays..and very rarely fish weekends! Congratulations on getting some fish, even though the knuckleheads tried to keep you from catching them! I'm not sure why fishing etiquette goes out the window on those days??

Re: San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

That’s one of the big reasons I quite tournament fishing several years ago. Put a few bucks and some points on the line and all common courtesy goes out the window! Now I fish for fun and it is SO much more relaxing (usually! 😅)

I’ve got about 3 weeks left of enjoying weekday fishing before I ...

Hodges has always had a ton of carp and it never seemed to effect the bass population!

Has anyone been having tough days at Hodges lately?

Basically all the bass fishermen that I have talked to have struggled so far. Crappie has been on for lots. The lake has come up several feet very quickly and Hodges is notoriously challenging in February.

Yep, Hodges is famous for it's ...

Re: San V 2/18 Bees, busters and Bassholes!

I hear you Moose.
I have learned to try to be more lenient when a guy with his family for example, are in rental boat and have no clue that when
they come close to where I am fishing or cut between me and the shoreline. Not fun, but I guess most do not really know any
better and are just out to have ...

Good thing you managed a good day regardless of people being inconsiderate and thinking the world revolves around them.

This phenomenon just isn't happening with bass boaters on the water.

I call it the "Cartman-ization of Society."

Re: Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024

Crappie jigs caught both a 6.5 lb and a 7+ lb bass last weekend on Saturday.

I just got 1 little one this week and a better one last week on the UL 500 size spinning reel fishing the main channels with jigs, in my kayak.

Re: Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024

Yeah, it's been a grind out there!

I will echo the others in that everyone I talked to on the water got 2 or less (bass). I put in a lot of cold, shivering hours this particular day to only net a couple, though they were quality.

Got one on a spinnerbait and one on a small crank. Neither bite ...
