Re: Sunday 8/10

You know, it's like @Pourboy said yesterday when we were leaving; people sometimes hear the stories about Barrett, and think you just have to throw in a line, and you'll catch a bunch of fish, but that's not necessarily true. You still have to know how to locate fish and apply good techniques to ...

Re: Wednesday fisherman

It's open on Wednesdays again. However Ticketmaster messed up or was messed up and it didn't do a good job of reposting the open dates. But be well advised that the "normal" Wednesday closure on the first Wednesday of the month is still in play. So no September 3rd date. Looks like Wednesday the ...

Barrett Lake August 27th report

Got out early with 619bassin and Dfishin also Vince who's not on the site. Small crowd today. Day started out pretty warm with a light ESE wind. Water temp was about 78F at the surface.

Goal was to try some new baits and long story short, my favorites are still my favorites. Tried a couple times ...

Personal best (Sunday 8/31)

On the water with my two boys and a boat ticket just before 7am. Our confidence spots were not hitting as hard as they have been over the past few weeks. Stayed in the main lake until we picked up a buddy at 9am. I focused on various top water approaches — flukes and small poppers produced the best ...

9/10 Late to the party

I woke up at 2:15 my usual time to head to Barrett. Body said nope and went back to sleep and woke up at 6 ready to go. When I arrived I saw Shawn and Theo heading out. The weather was nice no big winds and not to hot. Not being dark missed that fishing fun. Not many rollers then none. No topwater ...

How to make it a whole lot easier to buy Barrett Tix next month! Calendar Fix

To make sure you see the dates next time instead of a listing that most of us saw when making a reservation for Barrett,
In the upper right hand corner, click on the calendar icon and it will switch the screen to calendar mode. It will be a lot less frustrating next month.

See the screenshot below ...

My BFS set ups.

After much research into BFS techniques and equipment I am loving my BFS choices. My reels of choice were chosen partly on budget since I was not sure that I would like this type of fishing. But I do absolutely love this type of fishing on our highly pressured waters. I presently own and would ...

Re: My BFS set ups.

That's awesome! Fun isn't it? Even clones are a fun fight and when you get into a bigger one, forget about it! It's like being a kid again. Every time I land a 5+ I feel positively giddy! I can't wait for my DD, which @Pourboy assures me is coming. :D

BFS jig review

For years my all time favorite BFS bait has been a 1/16 or 1/8 oz Bitsy Bug jig, with a Z-Man TRD Bugz trailer. They have a bigger/ stouter hook than most micro jigs out there, which I think is important especially for larger fish with their bigger mouths. Coming in at around $2 it's a hard bait to ...

Re: My BFS set ups.

Theres another benefit for BFS fishing also and that is it's easy on the body. I have a bum wrist and I need surgery to fix it. With the reels so smooth and the way I can cast underhand or lobing the bait and it doesnt bother me nearly as much. I still get the distance maybe not as accurate but at ...

Re: My BFS set ups.

I agree a day of BFS fishing is so pleasant on the old bones. But I still like throwing those big topwaters for the crazy explosions.

Otay baits 4/20

6 total bass today at Otay, and five of them were courtesy of this:
IMG_20250421_071600065_HDR.jpg
It's a Diawa 3" TD Minnow, and it has definitely become my #1 jerkbait for BFS fishing. It has great action and casts a country mile. Most fish hit a twitch twitch pause retrieve, while two hit it on ...
