Torrey Pines 8/3
Will be up in the Bay area for the next week and a half so decided to give the surf a shot now that things have settled a bit. Fished TP from around 6:30-8:30 this morning. Doesn’t really need to be said at this point, but sand crabs were just not big enough, though there were a few scattered beds ...

Re: North County trips.
Today was just my third trip out from late spring until now, all three times to 11th Street in Del Mar; I caught around a half dozen mixed-species fish each time. Leopards, yellowfin croaker, perch, guitar sharks. What a difference in the wrong direction from last year.

August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
Well, surf fishing just sucked (for me anyway) last month & looks like more of the same into August, so far. Based on the relative inactivity on this forum over the past month I'm assuming others may be having the same experience ?? Haven't been posting as there's really been nothing note worthy to ...

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
It does seem like the 'wait until the sand crabs show up' hype of Apr - May, 'then we will slay 'em' was reflected in a brief flurry of corbina, spotfin, perch, guitar fish catch reports, then things dropped off the cliff .

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
Only small perch while fishing north county. Tough going to get even a couple. Could see the corbina up close, I tried LC and gulps, no luck. Crabs are micro if I can find any. On the beach yesterday, not fishing, just chillin. Saw corbina right up close to the beach. Only thing I saw caught were ...

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
Same story for me, caught my PB corbina and broke that PB 2 days later early in summer, only caught a few SNGF and perch since then. thinking about grabbing a float tube and hitting the bay or something.

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
Blacks was less than stellar this week. I saw more spotfin than corbina, which is unusual for me at this time of year. About a dozen spotfin, I believe, we're keyed in on bean clams. I only saw about 5 corbina, only one pair, the rest were all singles. Kelp was horrible.

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
I’ve been doing alright on Calicos on lures. But yea in general the surf fishing has really sucked. Other than a random corbina here or there not much going on. It was decent for me in March/April/May. June/July/August has been pretty bad. Mix of high temps and high swell. A lot of the zones I fish ...

PB 8/15
Same old, same old more or less this am. Beach looked flat as a pancake with the incoming just after low tide. When I saw a couple of surfers walk out & then drop a foot or so by T22, decided to set up there. Looked like a few shallow holes. Much prefer fishing the last few hours of a rising tide ...

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
A few weeks ago I saw a spear fisherman with a YFC that was easily 18" and maybe bigger. He said there were hundreds of YFC out there but I would not catch any because they were too far out. Other spear fisherman I talked to have found few fish. I switched from the surf to the lagoon. The surf is ...

Only guy I saw lately bag a couple was with an bow & arrow at PB ! Two good size ones.
I was in PB wednesday morning at Kono's, I saw a bow hunter fishing. Don't know if he caught anything.

OC Report 8-20-26
Started mid day at Huntington cliffs, beach looked good, fishing didn't pan out.
Drove down to Newport pier, 19th street, no good structure to focus on, so went out on pier asking around and watching the conditions. There was no bait around the pier, "NO" birds working as for as I could see. Water ...

Torrey Pines 08-21-2026
Fished from 6-9am with swimbait, but no bites. The water was very clear with very little seaweed in site. Saw several small stingrays while wading in about 2 feet of water. I noticed around 8am there were quite a few Corbina swimming just 20 feet in front of me. About 50 feet from shore. I grabbed ...

Re: August Surf Fishing a Repeat of July ?
Does this bother anyone other than me... It is illegal for anyone to possess a bow or arrow on a San Diego beach, and many others as well..... And yet these guys are shooting them into the surf with kids swimming well within range of a deflected arrow, poor shot or mishap while drawing or aiming ...

Good to hear you chime in Butch
Aside from this, how's the fishing going for you and your buddies in your area this summer ? Any better than here ?

Didn't mean to ignore you Bill.... Fishing's no better up here than down there... I haven't been out much this summer (Life gets in the way ...
