Re: Water clarity and eelgrass
I’m pretty sure most are referring to San Diego Bay in this post. Mission Bay tends to run clearer than San Diego Bay so finding the dirty water might be a viable strategy there. The dirty water in the South Bay, especially once the wind kicks up, is like 1-2ft visibility and not great for the ...

Species Day- Back Bay
Got out for a slow but consistent day in the back bay. Thought with the really low tide the fish would be pushed towards the deeper water. Not sure if they were but there was a decent bite on small to average sides spotties, 1 bone fish, 1 halibut and 1 Midshipman. Not sure why but that fish looks ...

4/12 New species 4 me!
Got to Shelter Island around 550, and being the creature of habit I am, started by the launch with the dropshot for nada, not even a mack or lizard fish. packed up and went to the Bali Hai dock. Yes I know, no fishing, but I'm usually gone by 7 or so and the employees have always been cool, even ...

Re: PB Spotty
My 2 cents, garnered from a lifetime of putting people on them. You really just have to put it in front of their mouths and wiggle….
Love the dudes that make spottie fishing complicated.
I have fallen in love with Spottie fishing because they are seemingly the vacuum cleaner of the bay. I ...

Mission Beach 11/10
Took the day off to create a four-day weekend, so I headed to the shore for some fishing.
Mussels were the bait du jour.
I got there close to 6:30 and fished until about 9:00. Relatively calm morning while the tide was out, but as the clouds burned off and the tide started to come in, the wind ...

Re: Mission Beach 3-7-2026
Got three big perch this morning--two on sandworms and one on a kastmaster. One on the Kastmaster was big and fat and dripping baby perch that were bigger than my 1/2 oz kastmaster. I had read others talk about dripping babies but i had no idea the babies were so big. Fun day. My son and my buddy ...

South Bay Cruise N Snooze....
Wasted a good tide by fishing where the fish weren't.....and kicking across just about the hole darn bay to fish one hole....that wasn't where I thought it was.
And that was after getting lost in the fog. Moreso than usual.
But it was a nice day, and once again the homemade "whatever you do, don ...

Motorizing a float tube.
For those of you interested in adding a motor to your float tube I highly recommend Bixpy. It will mount under virtually any tube with their glue on fin mount.
I've been running a Bixpy motor under my float tubes for over 6 years now, fishing an average of 4 days per week, and it has been a ...

Re: Cast Hope Barrett Event 4/25
Was a lot of fun out there yesterday! The late start time was a bit of a bummer, one of my favorite things about Barrett is getting to fish in the dark for awhile before sunup. The Yeti and T-shirt was a cool touch.
I got one on my first cast on a black/blue football jig and it was on after that ...

Barrett Report 5/6/2026
Hi all,
Season opener at Barrett today. Fun to see a bunch of friends. We got on the water about 0500. Air was chilly, but water temp was 64F. Pedaled over to Hauser and first fish was on about the third cast on a popper. Played around until about 0800 in Hauser getting them on topwater and the ...

5/6 Barrett
Was in line at 2:30 about 10 cars a head of me. Found out some people spent the night. I started fishing spots that were producing for me last year. Of coarse it had changed big time. Bring lots of tissue, the snot is thick and deep. Topwater was here and there. Hitting deeper areas and holes in the ...

The Murray Juice 10/9
Here is a picture of the bait that did most of the damage at Murray yesterday.
It's a Rapala Crush City Ned BLT on a 1/0 EWG hook. The weight is a Nako skirted 1/8 oz.
I like to focus on rocky areas with it, but it's lightweight, and extremely weedless. You can work it over and through grass and ...
