Public Comment...May 5th session

I attended the City Council session last night for Public Comment on the proposed changes to the 2026 City Budget. The place was filled to capacity with overflow in the media room. EVERYONE was fired up for their causes......so was I. Glad I got there early as I was one of the first to express my ...

No Mas Wednesday's

This battle was lost but the war is still on. June will be the last month to fish Wednesdays at the Big B. Barrett will be open only on Saturday and Sunday for FY 2026. I believe that will be the norm in the other seasonal lakes. At least we got the FULL attention of Council on the many issues ...

Re: No Mas Wednesday's

Forgot to mention that the issue(s) regarding the closing of limiting days of Murry and Marimar is still under consideration.

Last chance to be heard

This Friday, June 6th is the last meeting of the Budget Review Committee. Is is the last chance for those concerned to express their views on the lakes issues. The meeting begins at 9 am, I have yet to see the agenda on the City website as of this am. Tuesday, June 10th is when we will know what ...

Re: The Lakes

Woo.....woo Cowboy's the fight is still not over yet.....yes it was good news the Council voted( after there was 10 million dollars discovered) to "completely restore all proposed cuts". The mayor has what is called line item veto power, where he can cut anything he wants from the proposal. If and ...

The Mayor just vetoed the Council on the lakes

We are close but the mayor just stepped in and used his line item veto for all the lakes except Murray and Marimar. If you are on Facebook go to the Friends of SD Lakes to use a suggested email to send to the council members. If we can get six votes from the council we will WIN. Or you can just call ...

Re: The Mayor just vetoed the Council on the lakes

Hey Guys.........if you go on the City of SD website you can find all the council members email address(s). I pasted the copy of the email from the Friends of SD Lakes(made a few changes and comments) to each of the Council. I am in Florida till the 26th, which is when the decision from the council ...

Wednesday Barrett tickets update

Just received this info from the City:
"Barrett tickets for Wednesday are visible on Ticketmaster starting with Wednesday, July 23rd. Tickets will be available to be purchased on Tuesday, July 8th, along with the August dates." Sorry for the late post as I have been out of country.

As we won this ...

Re: Yahoo Parking

The excitement of fishing Barrett sometimes makes people not think straight. We are ALL very lucky to experience that place, I invited the Council members who voted yes to override the mayor's veto to come experience Barrett. If I can get (some of) them out there they will be hooked for life ...

Re: 7/30 Tubin again

Yes indeed, fun day yesterday at the Big B. Could not break the 3 lb mark but lost a few that were pretty big. Not too hot(yet)....perfect conditions.
Only a few boats....screw up with Ticketmaster. I am going to recommend that the City look into a different ticketing company(or way). Ticketmaster ...

Re: 7/30 Tubin again

Drinking water......The City is trying to use all of it it has before buying from any of the Water Distributors because it has become so expensive. There is a point though that the water is tested and when levels become almost deadpool it dosen't test drinkable. I have my super tube with a motor ...

2026 Barrett poll/ideas?

I had a great meeting with the City yesterday. A lot was discussed. Understand that the program at Barrett is truly unique to both hunters and fisherman. They want our input on what we like or dislike about it. The poll below is a question that was asked to me. After thinking about it I thought ...

Re: 8/13 Tube

Really cool running into some of the "Junkies" yesterday. We all spoke of what a special place that is and what a privilege to access it. The overall size of the fish have been getting smaller and smaller for me the last two outings....not to dink stage yet. I guess I have to fish deeper and slower ...

Re: 2026 Barrett poll/ideas?

A few observations from the above comments:

The City realizes what a cash cow Barrett(like SV) is. I just wish the $$ stayed with Barrett or the other lakes, but it all goes into the General Fund. Other mouths are bigger than the City Lakes(programs). I don't think they would ever screw with the ...

Re: 2026 Barrett poll/ideas?

All good points Dave. It does look like monthly sales of the tickets is the majority opinion. If you remember we came real close to loosing the boat rentals because of motor issues 3 years ago. The City is replacing them as they can. I think the number is about 10 new ones received so far. So with ...

Re: New boats for Barrett?

Refer to the 2026 Barrett/poll ideas post. Again, when I met with the City I was told they were purchasing new 16' boats for Barrett. They will use the existing motors, most of which are a few years old or newer. As the motors seem to expire they are being replaced, slowly.

Re: New boats for Barrett?

No worries.....I will be speaking to the City after the close of Barrett for any updates. Anyone can always call the City Lakes dept for updates to any of the reservoirs. Speaking of which there is a very important meeting concerning the future of El Cap on October 1st. You can get the details on ...
