El Cap Oct 28 report

Had a couple nice days lately at El Cap. Air in the early morning is cool/cold, but the water temp is still upper 60s F. Poked around along the shore and picked up a few nice fish with the usual suspects for me, a popper, a floating Rapala and a little swim jig I have been playing with. Wind hasn't ...

Dec.15-Return to River…oh yeah!

Back for another quick river session as I decided to try something different after catching nothing but dinks over at Murray. I mean I have worked hard and only been ending up with small bass. Anyway....after tons of casts into the green strained water of the SD River and time flying by, I finally ...

12-29-25 - Christmas comes a few days late!

Hey all. Been awhile since I posted a report and today provided the perfect occasion.
Woke up a bit later than I planned. Was concerned about the wind advisory but the forecast said 5-10MPH so I said F it and decided to go join Pourboy at El Cap.

It was cold as a witches teat when I launched ...

And just like that...local pond strikes again!

Nothing spectacular, but the annual projection has shot up to 730!

Re: 1-15 Miramar/Swimbaits/Fail...and cheating?

I have mostly been fishing the bay but may try Miramar soon. I will certainly have my usual drop shot for bass but will also have subtle action minnow like lures with light jig heads i.e. I-motion, "do nothing", Ned rig, hover rig, etcetera. The Z-man StreakZ or Assassin could be fished that way too ...

1/20- SD River(finally)

I have been taking care of other things that I kept putting off and have not been fishing much at all. I think people have seen me at Home Depot and Lowes so much lately. that they must think I work there..ha ha. So this morning I needed a break and arrived at the river around 8:30a.m. Have not ...

Caught this 7.25lb bass from shore this morning on a trout swimbait.
McFish says to never tell where..... but he already guessed where. Smart guy!

Re: Braid and Leader Line

10lb Braid to 12lb Fluoro is what we use 90% of the time. Really not a ton of benefit to fishing lighter then 12lb unless the water is clear or your targeting a more line shy species like Bonefish. Spotties eat 12lb just fine and you'll be glad you have it if you hook something bigger

Re: Braid and Leader Line

Just my two cents... Maxima "Ultragreen." (my fav) No leader necessary unless targeting toothy critters.

Re: Finally Happened- South Bay

That’s a catch for sure.
This bonefish is probably my biggest from a month ago. Bit a 4ā€ white swimbait on a Warbaits Neckbreaker of all things. Barely had it hooked with their smaller hard mouth.

Re: Lucky Craft, wind knots.

The casting of a bare heavy weight to ā€œwet packā€ the line is a great idea… my wife used to fish spinning a lot in the past and when we would leave the dock, I would let all her line out behind the boat (nothing attached) and pack it back on, pretty much solved any spinning reel issues throughout the ...

Del Mar afternoon 07/26

Fished Del Mar for a few hours late afternoon. Crowds weren’t too bad. Water was dirty but not too much salad to snag on. Started off with landing two small YFC right away. Nothing for the next hour or so until this Corvina took a liking to the Gulp Sandworms of all things. Fought much harder and ...

Re: Mission Beach 8/3

It happened to all of us at one time or another. Bad vibe, bad smell, wrong way of standing, who knows. Sometimes you just can’t buy a bite, and others , well it just gets embarrassing…can’t fight them off with a stick.

It makes no sense, lol. Just gotta learn to take the good days with bad ...

Pacific Beach 8/14

A short late AM session just south of pier. Clean water, better than expected conditions, tide incoming at about 4' at 10 am. Lug worms & mussel the bait of choice today. Good perch bite, best 2 hits turned out to be 2 guitar fish, both around 2'. 6 perch in the mix, all 6-8". Called it at 11:30 as ...

Re: Big Low tides

From Friday. This one came about 3 feet from the sand, right at the drop-off, probably no more than 2-3 feet deep. This trough ran about 40 yards parallel to the beach adjacent to a small reef. I believe baitfish use these depressions to move up and down the shoreline and just beneath the white ...
