Re: 11/06 Mission Beach
Looks like fun out there. On a good bite you can throw Trout Spoons and Spinners at them. With that treble hook back there you hook mostly every bite. This can really add to your numbers plus the Hardware Perch seem to average a little bigger. Good choices are Roostertails, Small Kastmasters and ...

Re: El Capitan Bluegill 10-26-25
You usually have some Bass follow up those Gills. Big Dark marks. They wait for you to throw them back in the water for an easy meal. I drop a Bluegill Swimbait, with a weighted head and a nice 4/0 EWG Hook in the tail and let it free fall. On the right days… deadly. Like a Yellowtail on a Mackerel ...

Re: Lower Otay Bank Fishing - 11/23/25
The Best advice I ever got , 40 years ago, was get a Float Tube. For very little cost, you can skip shore fishing and fish every “unaccessible by shore” spot easily. I’ve caught so many more fish because of it. You get access to all the docks in the Harbor, you can fish the steep rocks at the lakes ...

Re: Bucktails In Surf ?
We used to get quite a few Halibut and big Perch on 1/2 to 3/4 ounce white Roostertail Spinners. You just have to be sure to wash them off with freshwater and store them in a dry place or they lose their luster. They cast a long ways and, with the feathered treble hook in the back, catch most ...

Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon 11-26-25
I throw a minimum of 5 inch baits, to keep from catching babies. Big fish rarely move on tiny baits. Not worth the effort. There are some really big Fish swimming in there. I’ve taken many Halibut over 10 pounds in that Lagoon. Lots of nice Bass, Corvina, not quite keeper White Sea Bass…and some ...

Re: Nov- Murray & Thanksgiving wishes
Same Picture but in some way opposite. You are lucky to have some small Bass in Murray. Canyon only has bigger Bass after its bout with Golden Algea. So my last trip, six hours on the water. Two Bass, ten minutes apart. Also my boat was heading to the Shop for serious Surgery to replace the Gas Tank.

Canyon Lake 11/28
Hit Canyon for what seems to be my Monthly Float Tube Session with my buddy Hoppy. It was the most beautiful idyllic windless sunny warm day! I finally had to wear Waders as the water temperature had dropped into the cold territory. While this usually affects most Lakes by diminishing catches, I was ...

Re: El Cap 11/30
I don’t fizz my Bass anymore. On an old baitcaster, I have a full spool of 60 pound Dacron, maybe 60 feet. On the end of the line is a barbless 6/0 hook, tied to the bend of the hook so it is upside down. To the eye of the hook is a foot long leader tied to an 8 ounce weight. When a Bass or Crappie ...

Newport Surf
I went on an exploratory trip to check on conditions, and found some really fishable holes in North Newport to South Huntington Beach. It was late afternoon with the nearly Full Moon rising well before the Sun set and the Tide getting very low. The holes were defined by the surf disappearing into ...

Sounds like they are hanging in the warmest water in the Bay. Meanwhile the big Sand Bass are out near the mouth of the Harbor, Chillin with the Halibut.

Re: Newport Surf
I was fishing the inside troughs, the Surf itself was 2-3 foot but hardly impacted the area I fished, There was some surge up and down the face of the Beach. One time it shot up my leg and I got wetter than I thought I would. That only impacted me when I sat down on the steel auditorium chairs at ...

Re: Big Low tides
Yesterday, I threw 5 inch Swimbaits into the deep holes right along the Surfline at low Tide.. Think of the days you see the Surfers walking in and they have to get back on their board and paddle to shore. Also recognized by the breaking surf quits well before the shoreline. I got a couple 18 to 20 ...

Only if you run out of batteries, My Hobie is pretty zippy. It’s hard to see but there are “tons” of dry storage in each tube plus a Tupperware box clips on top of each tube.

Re: Dec. 4-Quick River session
I used to Throw Dads at Hodges quite a bit. There were Canals criss crossing Orange County and the were easy to get. All those Canals are empty now, tough to get those Crustaceans for me now. If I can get a few fish drop spotting the Crawlers over my super squirmy plastics, I’m all in. The whole ...
