Re: Barrett Opener boat report

Just keep moving when you can't find fish. They are there in bunches. A 10 fish day can quickly turn in a 30 fish day in a short time.

May 4

Pretty fun morning at the B for me. I had 67 by 2pm when I decided to go home. Nothing over 3 but the topwater was great for me in the morning.

The key to the topwater for me was finding the bait. It was an ok bite but it really took off for me when I spotted the wolfpacks. I would get 3-6 bass ...

Got to the gate at 3:50 and the line was already moving. Light to Moderate rain that persisted till around 10:00. Road seems to be in pretty good shape so far this year..

Barrett Report May 8

Got on the water early with Chuck. Water was toasty warm and the air wasn't, so there was impressive steam fog happening. Feels sketchy at best crossing the lake in the dark, in the fog. I have a couple lights on the kayak, which allows others to see me, but then I can't see out in the fog.

Really ...

Re: Wed 8th kayak report

John, I have some extra crawlers, I'll let you have one on Saturday. I have never gotten a hit on the jitterbug at Barrett either.

5/8

Another beautiful day at Barrett. Same ol start . Got back into Pine Creek @ 5:15 first light and started throwing a spinning bait. Hooked up immediately with a clone 2lber.
Lots of small fish with the nicer fish in deeper water. Ended up with 60 plus fish none going over 5lbs. Just another average ...

Rocks and Bush 5.11

Started off early in Hauser throwing a jt ribbit swimbait for a few fish in the gray light, then got a few on the popper. By 9am I only had a dozen fish so I retreated to the flip bite in the back of Hauser but even that was slow for me. I started making my way back pitching ikas in every little ...

Barrett Report May 11

Nice day on the water at Barrett, was reasonably warm even in the dark. Not sure I like traversing the lake in the fog, in the dark though.
Water started out at 68F and wind was pretty calm. First fish was on a bad cast ( backlash and me picking it out in the dark). I hit the shoreline and it was ...

May 12

Made my first visit to Barrett on Sunday May 12. Got to the kayak launch area at 4:30. The fog on the lake made visibility poor in the dark but it was getting lighter and lighter so it wasn't long until I didn't need my flashlight. Headed to Pine Creek to start the day, and per the recommendation of ...

Sunday May 19th

I’m sure some of the regulars had typical May Barrett days but we sure didn’t. The girl and I teamed up for 25 bass to 3lbs but it was a pick at best with no topwater or boilers to throw at. A far cry from our 44 last Saturday in a short morning session. My guess is the wind and cold, wet foggy ...

However I only got 2 on topwater and 1 on a Keitech .Fished my way out and didn't really do much of anything ...

Barrett Report May 22

Got on the water dark and early with Chuck at about 0430. Freeeeeezing cold this morning. Truck temp gauge told me it was 42F, but it seemed colder. Light wind too, so that probably didn't help. Pedaled over to where it was good last week, and it was decent, but not as good. First fish in the boat ...

SATURDAY morning bite

Got to the lake at 6 today was a little chilly but not too bad.Parking however was a mess but was still able to get a decent spot. I usually hit the first cove but decided to head straight for hauser, flipped the edges of trees with no luck ... headed for the middle of the lake to deep crank but i ...

Been hitting the B pretty much all May with decent results. Today I took my cousin but we got too lazy to pump our tubes and decided to fish off the dock. It paid off pretty good. I got my share of crappie and this nice bass on a bluegill swimbait he got a decent one on a jig. It was pretty ...

Barrett Report May 26

Got out nice and early on the water today. It wasn't too chilly then, but it changed. Pedaled over to the cove by the island at the opening of Hauser and got hits right away. It must have been dark for them too, the one I caught hit the popper at least 5 times before he got it. He was only about a ...

May 25 - Kayak

I rarely fish freshwater, especially bass, but I do enjoy a good kayak adventure to Barrett every year or two. I brought my kayak buddy two years ago and he was hooked. We set out for a return trip Friday night, camping out at Good Vibes Ranch near the lake, which was a trip. It bought us an extra ...
