May 12

Made my first visit to Barrett on Sunday May 12. Got to the kayak launch area at 4:30. The fog on the lake made visibility poor in the dark but it was getting lighter and lighter so it wasn't long until I didn't need my flashlight. Headed to Pine Creek to start the day, and per the recommendation of ...

Sunday May 19th

I’m sure some of the regulars had typical May Barrett days but we sure didn’t. The girl and I teamed up for 25 bass to 3lbs but it was a pick at best with no topwater or boilers to throw at. A far cry from our 44 last Saturday in a short morning session. My guess is the wind and cold, wet foggy ...

Barrett Report May 22

Got on the water dark and early with Chuck at about 0430. Freeeeeezing cold this morning. Truck temp gauge told me it was 42F, but it seemed colder. Light wind too, so that probably didn't help. Pedaled over to where it was good last week, and it was decent, but not as good. First fish in the boat ...

SATURDAY morning bite

Got to the lake at 6 today was a little chilly but not too bad.Parking however was a mess but was still able to get a decent spot. I usually hit the first cove but decided to head straight for hauser, flipped the edges of trees with no luck ... headed for the middle of the lake to deep crank but i ...

26

Been hitting the B pretty much all May with decent results. Today I took my cousin but we got too lazy to pump our tubes and decided to fish off the dock. It paid off pretty good. I got my share of crappie and this nice bass on a bluegill swimbait he got a decent one on a jig. It was pretty ...

Barrett Report May 26

Got out nice and early on the water today. It wasn't too chilly then, but it changed. Pedaled over to the cove by the island at the opening of Hauser and got hits right away. It must have been dark for them too, the one I caught hit the popper at least 5 times before he got it. He was only about a ...

May 25 - Kayak

I rarely fish freshwater, especially bass, but I do enjoy a good kayak adventure to Barrett every year or two. I brought my kayak buddy two years ago and he was hooked. We set out for a return trip Friday night, camping out at Good Vibes Ranch near the lake, which was a trip. It bought us an extra ...

Barrett Report May 29

Hello all,

Barrett was really nice on Wednesday. I was a little worried since it was 44F at Pigs at 0430. But...the water was a pleasant 70 F and the fish were happy as well. First fish came on a popper and was a bit over 3 pounds. He hit it like he was angry at it and I have to say it was the most ...

Re: Wed 29th top water fun!!

Always fun fishing with you. Incredible to see that big rat swimming. You find the best lures. Except for that bone popper, I may have been some help on that specific one. :)

Barrett Report June 1

Got out early morning as usual. Quite busy on this Saturday, but great to see a bunch of friends. It was warmer, but not warm. Water temp was 70F. Pedaled over to Hauser and started catching 2 pounders on the popper and the 110 jerkbait. Got a lot of short strikers on the topwater. Over to Becky's ...

Re: Late yet epic!

Glad to see that the Magic Lake is heating up. It is a special place populated by happy Anglers. We can almost call it the Barrett Family. It just goes to show what a properly managed Lake can produce socially as well as recreationally. Real Fishermen are a great group of people, everywhere I’ve ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

Barrett lake is a little tricky at times, you really have to try to follow the reports and see what they are biting or know the lake but mostly season, i enjoy watching TACTICAL BASSIN on youtube i have learn a ton from them,i watch a video where it shows how bass move during mid spring and use the ...

Re: Fishing identity crisis + report for 6/2

Hey Shawn…ditto on no swivels. Always tie direct to line. And I fish 8 to 12lb at all SD lakes for bass if you aren’t already. As for lures, I bet you are throwing what most of us are but the bass have been finicky this year at times. The minnows I set you up with are great on boilers. Several other ...
