Son’s First Halibut in Mission Bay 1/13
Rented a skiff to bond with my son. Didn’t have hi expectations especially since we are beginners. Was about to call it a day and he snagged a legal halibut on live sardine. He was so pumped and now is addicted.

SD Bay 1/20
Original plan was to go throw small flies on the ultra light trout rod at schools of mullet. That changed after spending 1-2 hours and finding only 3 mullet up shallow that didnt want to play. Tossed on the ned rig with a really small fluke and the bite was on. It wasn't a numbers day but very good ...

Re: SD Bay 1/20
While Surf Fishing last month I had those damn Mullet chase an Roostertail Spinner all the way to my Rod tip. The water was plenty clear. Sometimes the whole school turned and followed it. None ate it. I do well in Newport Bay on tiny bits of Shrimp on an #14 black Salmon Egg Hook under a Bobber ...

4/13 Coronado
Got up to the bridge right before 11. Steady action on the trusty crankbait. Also got a nice corvina in front of Tidelands on the underspin. Definitely a good day by my standards. 19 spotties with only a few dinks, 1 short halibut on a lipless crankbait of all things, 1 corvina and even a needlefish ...

New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
On Wednesday the Dolphin Half Day Boat kept 121 Corvina from San Diego Bay. They have routinely been fishing the bay this spring and have been pushing farther and farther into the back bay. While totally legal it’s a pretty embarrassing look for the Dolphin considering rockfish season is open and ...

Re: New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
Half day boats are a plague. Their business model of needing to not only catch, but harvest as many fish as possible in order to support the deckhands' incomes with filet dollars may have done more to negatively impact California's coastal fisheries than any other type of recreational fishing. I've ...

Re: New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
They fish right outside the sweetwater river mouth, chumming sardines as if bluefin were boiling. I don't know how many halibut and corvina (and whatever else in the area happens to enjoy sardines) were hanging out on those flats, but there will undoubtedly be less of them going forward.

Re: New Low for Dolphin Half Day Boat
I went out on the Dolphin AM half day trip yesterday. The trip was planned and promoted as a bay trip targeting halibut. They have been running these trips on Wednesdays.
We fished the South Bay. The boat drifted the entire day, with no anchoring or chumming. The captain stated over the PA that our ...

Tidelands launch 5-11-24
Started at sunrise. Hit the mooring field while waiting for friends. I was throwing a skunk buster 3/8 oz tube and had 5 by the time they got on the water. Great day of fishing out there with the wind and swell. Ended the day with 20 spotties, 1 ugly ass guitar fish, 3 halibut (1 being legal that ...

Variety at Tidelands Park
Floated Tidelands Park this morning from 6:00-9:00 with a steady bite the whole time. Drop shot robo worms on a 6lb ultra light trout setup was all I ended up using. Handful of spotties, yellow fin croaker, a halibut and a chunky Sargo.

Re: Any YFC anglers out there having success?
Honestly at this time of year it's probably much much easier to get them from the surf than in the bays from shore. Just use a carolina rig with a small grub or sand crabs.

Re: Any YFC anglers out there having success?
I agree with @KamWalsh . Once summer rolls around the surf would be my first destination to look for YFC. The river side of the South Mission Bay jetty would be my other destination.

Mission Bay coolness 6/26
After the great testicular meltdown Tuesday, I decided to meet up with my buddy Randy for a waderless fishing excursion in Mission Bay. Man it felt good to fish in cool water and swim trunks.
