5/13- A warm welcome back

I gotta say, I was a little worried that my first Barrett trip might be a bit of a letdown. It was only going to be my second time out there, and first time with a proper setup. The expectations were gonna be sky high with the extra largemouth experience I’ve built on my tube this year. It ain’t ...

5/16 We ran into a Couple

1st Train in. New boats are sweet!

We started in Hauser. Morning bite was kinda slow but we fed them the frog so that was fun. Only a fish here and there but no real size.
IMG_1285.jpg

Once we slowed down and went to plastic we started plucking them. Tried the senko but too boring to fish. Small ...

Barrett Report 5/20/26

Hi all,

Headed out this morning to Barrett. Got there dark and early and was on the water before the sun was. Air was cooler, but water temp was 69-70F. The wind was pretty good from the North for a bit and then calmed down.

I had an early finish time so I didn't get too long on the water. The ...

Saturday May 30th

The morning started cold and foggy, a brisk 40° according to my car. Hopped in the boat by 5 AM and immediately took off down the Hauser arm. Thought I would give Topwater a fair chance for once and it paid off considering how slow the lake has been.

Had 8 fish within the first few hours all on a ...

Re: Where are the Reports?

I was out yesterday. Absolutely beautiful day. On the water by 5:15. Water temps went from 67-75 throughout the day. Winds were dead calm to pretty light by Barrett standards, although I left by 1:30. Started by offering topwater options; buzzbait, popper, walking bait, and plopper frog. No takers ...

Tube report.....6/10

Launched shortly after 6 am....really good place to launch as the lower water level has made a nice beach. Kicked(motored) across to the small coves and rocks piles, did not take long as I hooked one that had a 5 lb mouth but that was really skinny, did not bother to weight him but I pulled 1 7 inch ...

Re: Barrett Report 6/10/26

We had a Private Membership Only Lake here in Orange County called Oso Reservoir. For several years the Bass caught in the Daytime were big headed skinny as a Bluegill looking Bass. I was lucky to be able to fish it after hours. The Bass we caught were thick and healthy and fought like crazy. I’d ...

Barrett 6/14

The bass bite is very slow, only managed to catch them on senkos. Ended up resorting to catching the big bluegills swimming around. Last year I caught 40, but today was only 9, majority of them were bluegills.

The water is green with visibility around the 3-4ft range. There was some small bass ...

Steady Morning Pick on New Technology

Got out early for a very pleasant morning temps-wise. Had initial trolling motor/remote issues with a newly installed Smart Head conversion and once that problem was solved, got on the fish quickly with a popper biter. I had a little ground to make up as my buddy fished on while I was cussing and ...

Sunday June 14 - the bite was hot!

Finally the bite was back on at Barrett! I went in late April for the Cast Hope event then a couple days in mid-May, and the bite was unusually tough and slow. But last Sunday, almost from the get-go, I could tell it was going to be different.

Started out on the Pine arm of the lake and found some ...

Re: Sunday June 14 - the bite was hot!

The water was overall less green for sure, but there was still that thick spongy algae covering everything down to 12’ or so. But I think stuff was maybe better than when I was there a couple weeks ago? Hard to tell.

Yea that worm and color is one I make! Looks more yellow in that photo but it’s a ...

Windy Short Sunday 6-27

Put in 5 hours from 5:30-10:30 when dealing with early winds and afternoon to-do’s sent us packing. The first 3.5 hours were consistent bites on our swim senkos, doubletail hulajigs, minijigs, senkos, and micro chatters. Caught so many on my swimsenko in two trips that the hook snapped in the middle ...

Re: Windy Short Sunday 6-27

Sorry I couldn’t get the motor going for you this morning John. Funny thing is, after you guys left the dock, another group hopped in and fired it up on the first pull. 🤣.

Hey thanks a ton for trying! I did see the boat gone when we came back in. My guess is it was flooded by the first guy I ...

6-28 float tube/ shore report

My son and I went on Sunday and had a great time. We launched from the dock area and went across the lake and down about half mile. We tried top water for the first 30-40 min with nothing. Switched to drop shot and never looked back. Caught over 25 fish for the 2 of us and I had a 3 and a 6.10lb PB ...

6/27 Big B report

Kind of a tough day at Barrett this past Saturday. Max got a nice 5.6 while I contributed a 4.2. Only 40 total between us with the versatile Max getting the majority of them. Some of the fish were skinny and definitely need more shad. Still fun on a beautiful day.

July 8th report

Had my first trip to barrett today. Started off with the whopper plopper and was able to hook and land all 5 of them. My buddy was able to get 3 on the plopper as well. My 4 were on a shad color and my buddy was a black plopper. 7 of the 9 fish were reeled in by the buddies daughter so that made it ...

July 11 Report

Fished from 5am to 11:30 today on a rental boat. I was out there looking for a big bite so in fairness to the lake I wasn’t chasing numbers. I threw the Deps 250 for 2.5 hours in the morning on secondary points in starting in Becky and back into Hauser - no takers.

I started throwing the keitech ...

Morning Showers and Finally Some Quality

Had grand kids coming today around 1pm so made it a short session. Absolutely beautiful morning and even light showers for 30 mins didn’t dampen the day. Caught 27 between us on swim senkos, jigs, reapers, and 4” regular senkos. Most came in Hauser after giving Pine a try early. Been a while since ...

July 15 report

18 LMB, almost all on drop shot. All about .5-1 lb range. Float tubing. Bite just died about 11 am.

Car thermometer read 103F when I looked at it at Lyons Valley Road on about 2:30 pm. Stopped for ice cream in Alpine.
