Going there next week, been there many times before. Questions:
1. Is the water up in the green bushes and weeds or has it dropped?
2. Is the lake bottom clean or covered with filamentous algae ("elephant snot")?
3. Any shad spotted? Last year, the lake was almost shad free.
4. Any shad spawn ...

Barrett Report 5/6/2026
Hi all,
Season opener at Barrett today. Fun to see a bunch of friends. We got on the water about 0500. Air was chilly, but water temp was 64F. Pedaled over to Hauser and first fish was on about the third cast on a popper. Played around until about 0800 in Hauser getting them on topwater and the ...

5/6 Barrett
Was in line at 2:30 about 10 cars a head of me. Found out some people spent the night. I started fishing spots that were producing for me last year. Of coarse it had changed big time. Bring lots of tissue, the snot is thick and deep. Topwater was here and there. Hitting deeper areas and holes in the ...

Re: Barrett Report 5/6/2026
Lots of small fish for me too, got them on different baits, no real pattern. Not great numbers either, not the usual opener
Water level is down a lot.

5/9 report
Headed down hauser first thing and found them stuck to sticks and rocks. Caught a few on the popper, underspin, and the jerkbait. Found the key this weekend was to keep moving and fishing and not setting up in one spot. Boat of 3 ended up with 120.

May 10 Beautiful Day Tough Bite
In line at the gate early and after being rewarded by a spectacular sunrise, we found the bite tougher than usual. No reaction or chase bite for us so picked away with plastics, mostly flylined senkos and t-rigged pumpkin mag fattyz. For a couple of guys whose mom’s are watching from up above, we ...

Re: 5/9 report
Worm was the deal for me. Didn’t spend a lot of time throwing anything else cause I was getting bit. Not as many as at the last charity prefish a couple weekends ago but still a very good morning. Only thing missing was quality, most of my fish were 12-14”. Biggest probably 2.5. Wilson and Hauser.

Barrett Lake Pattern
The pattern on 5/10 was moss everywhere. Even 20' down, there's moss. Moss on stickups, moss on rocks, free floating moss, everywhere except far from shore. Lots of algae in the water too, maybe 2-3' visibility. Saw big long stringers of moss on the depth finder, almost like a forest down there in ...

Re: 5/9 report
Thank you for the report! Was there any decent sizes to the numbers you guys caught? I was there on opening day and ended with close to 40 but only about three of them were 3 lb or bigger. Everything else was dinks, not even the standard Barrett clones, but small fish. I'm hoping that was the ...

Re: Barrett Lake Pattern
I’ll bring extra tissues, if not for the aquatic snot, to dry my tears if it’s still a slow dinkfest for me on Wednesday… haha

Even the dinks yesterday put up a hell of a fight. They looked and seemed healthier than last year. The slab bluegill were also a blast on a light bfs setup

5/9
Fished 3.5 hours. 2 hours of bass, caught 19. 16 were small, 11-14 inches. 2 about 2lbs, one quality fish 3.5lbs. Was just trying to quickly cover all my usual spots and go through all my usual baits to see what was up. Every spot produced ok, every bait worked well. It's Barrett. I was pretty bored ...

1 last minute spot in my boat tomorrow(5/24)
I had a last minute cancellation and therefore, I have a spot open for whomever is available tomorrow.
You cover the additional $30 is all that is needed.
I have a trolling motor and battery. I will probably only be able to fish until 12 or 1 but you are free to use the boat til dark. If you might ...
