Couple nice four pound plus LMB chunks from Pelican Lake, Minnesota. Only disappointment of the trip is the lack of nice smallies that we got in previous years. Had a lot of fun the last two evenings on topwater action with the rat and the grasshopper.

First day back from vacay. Hit Murray as the gate opened. Caught perhaps a dozen but all were of the smaller dinks and clones variety. About half of them were topwater, and the rest all came courtesy of small crankbaits.

Closed Aug. 4th and 5th. And the 19th and 20th. They said that might finalize closers for algae treatments for the year. Got a few nice models on top water today. Follow up bait of choice was a Senko, which worked fine. Folks throwing smaller plastics recording high numbers.

Had a bit of a rough one at Otay yesterday. Got out as soon as it opened and fished till noon with only 6 dinks to show for it. I tried multiple baits in every part of the water column and just couldn't find any willing participants. I didn't even bother with pictures.

Shad are moving and grooving pretty good now at grey light, and top water bite is on too.. It shut down by 9am, but put 5 fish on for a half day..

Back in Minnesota at Pelican Lake for my annual fishing trip. Getting mostly largemouths with a few smallmouths mixed in. Craw baits, senkos and neko rigs are the main producers.The fish are chunky and healthy.

YES! My replacement Trika jig rod arrived (geese are buttholes, don't cast anywhere in the vicinity of one), so I couldn't wait to get back on the water and get jiggy with it.
